Après avoir quitté The Time, le premier album solo de Jesse Johnson paraît en 1984, sous le nom + titre :
 Jesse Johnson's Revue, label A&M RECORDS.

Son second opus, Shockadelica (1986), reste mémorable avec le featuring du maestro Sly Stone :afro: au timbre reconnaissable en une fraction de seconde.

FACE A

Jesse Johnson_1986_"Change Your Mind" (A1) :yeahhh:

Jesse Johnson_1986_"Crazay" (A2) :yeahhh: :whoosh: :afro:

Jesse Johnson_1986_"Baby Let's Kiss" (A3) :hendrix: :djumbe:

Jesse Johnson_1986_"Baby Let's Kiss" [Extended version]

Jesse Johnson_1986_"A Better Way" (A4) :drunk: :drunk:

La choriste :love1: tout simplement superbe. Très bon titre lent légèrement groovant avec un refrain imparable... Style que l'on retrouve sur l'album de The Soul Of John Black ‎– Black John (2009) :drunk:

Jesse Johnson_1986_"Do Yourself A Favor" (A5) :drunk:

FACE B

Jesse Johnson_1986_"She (I Can't Resist)" (B1) :djumbe: :trumpet"

Je pense automatiquement à Janet Jackson_1986_"What Have You Done For Me Lately" : titre produit la même année, sur le même label, et par ses potes de The Time, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis... Très ressemblant le tempo, NON ??? :P

Jesse Johnson_1986_"Addiction" (B2)

Jesse Johnson_1986_"Tonite" (B3) :drunk:

Du romantisme suintant.

Jesse Johnson_1986_"Burn You Up" (B4) :whoosh: :trumpet" :dling:

Les parties vocales graves avec ce "BURN YOU UP!" :love1: :)

Jesse Johnson_1986_"Black In America" (B5) :drunk:

"Being black in America
Sometimes I can't believe
People think that I'm just a crazy fool
For believing in a dream
Being black in America
Sometimes I can't believe
People think that I'm just a crazy fool
For believing in a dream

They look at me
They look at my car
And then they try to tell me
That I'm a star
To me there's no such thing

Some of us are lucky by far
But still we fight for the rights to be
Black and brown and set free

I beg your pardon
I didn't mean you
I take the blame
You don't stand accused
To you my love and apology

The point is its only getting worse
If now for ourselves
The children deserve
A better world from you and me

If I could dream tomorrow, Lord
I'd take all the hurt away yesterday
If I could save your sorrows
(Lord knows)
I'd save 'em baby
Save 'em for a rainy day

Being black in America
Sometimes I can't believe
People think that I'm just a crazy fool
For believing in a dream
Being black in America
Sometimes I can't believe
People think that I'm just a crazy fool
For believing in a dream.
